The number one duty of the Federal Government is the protection of its citizenry. I would argue that a baby in the womb is as every bit a citizen as the mother who carries it. The most precious of life is a baby; the most innocent of life is a baby in the womb.
The brilliance of the concept of a constitutional republic, such as ours, is that the citizens of the society create the laws which are the fabric that hold the society together. Without such law, there is mob rule, dictatorship, or tyranny. The people of the society in a constitutional republic are safe from government oppression, majority oppression, and tyranny, as long as the laws are just, as long as the laws apply evenly to all citizens. This protects the minority, the individual; this protects those who are unable to protect themselves. A child in the womb cannot protect itself. A child in the womb is the most defenseless of the citizenry.
Our country was founded on the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
